We might be looking for a volunteer later on in 2024 to help with some chores around the studio. But only if we have paying partners sharing the studio first. As we move to a production studio, we hope to meet potters in need of work space that are willing and able to split the costs of renting studio space. This is not an easy task. I've been hoping for such potters to emerge and join me in Anchorage for many years, and frankly, I doubt this will ever come to pass. (Is that a challenge I hear?) For one, sharing space requires having the same needs, like no pets, no smoking, no fragrant scented clothes or lotions, etc. Working in the same clay temperature with electric kilns. Most of the equipment a potter would need already exists in the studio such as wheels, slab roller, extruder, pug mill, and electric kilns. Each potter will need to provide their own stash of glazes and decorate their pots so that the bottoms stay clean, glazes don't run, etc. Clay has to stay in the white cone 6 variety (stoneware or porcelain) without speckles. Maybe a red clay area will be set up eventually, but it would also require a second pug mill to handle the red clay recycle.
We will trade volunteer time for studio time. This position works from 5pm-9pm on Mon, Wed, Fri nights.
