1. Can I just drop in to work with clay?
Ans: Yes, on designated Saturday Nights for $20/ball of clay during a Throw Down Event. (Not available during COVID-19). Add $25 if you create something you want to keep. You select from 5 color options and we care fore and complete your item with trimming a foot, bisque fire, glazing and glaze firing to completeness. See the schedule for dates.
Use of clay, wheels, and the studio require education and guidance. Therefore we do not offer walk-in service for wheel throwing. However, we can make appointments for lessons at $50/hour per person to play with clay on the wheel for two - six people. Two hour appointments are recommended. We love to share our knowledge and skills with you personally.
Materials, Kiln Firing, and Glazes are not included and must be bought separately from the lessons.
Minimum advance notice is 2 weeks, but a month in advance is better for large groups.
2. Do you sell pottery supplies?
Ans: Yes, we sell tools, clay, glaze and supplies for potters. We have a lot of stuff in stock, but not everything. We are a small business, with little working capital. Our employees may or may not know what you are asking about yet, so please be kind when inquiring on the phone. (Training is ongoing) We are happy to add your items to our next order, if they are things we can typically supply. When you call the store, please give your name and a phone number and email address so that the owner can get back to you, typically in a couple days. Please list what kind of items you are looking for or send an email describing what you need.
3. Do you have raw materials for making glazes?
Ans: Yes, we have commonly requested raw materials for making glazes, particularly for cone 5-6. We prefer that you contact us by email to list what you need by name and the quantity needed. We buy in bulk and repackage what you need in small quantity. Due to the respiratory hazard of most materials (powder form) we do not fill your order while you wait. Orders are filled when we are able to do so safely, and we prefer to do so outside, when the weather is nice.
4. COVID-19 How is the studio functioning during the pandemic?
Updated Ans: Sept 2020: The studio is open for the month-long Adult Wheel Throwing classes and Homeschool Drawing classes. Appropriate hands-free face masks are required for entrance into the gallery and studio.
Original Ans: The studio is closed for public use until the pandemic is over. No wheel use and no painting ceramics in the studio. Finished pottery is still available for sale. Follow our Facebook page for announcements of outdoor Pop-Up sales happening on Thurs, Friday or Saturday nights when the weather is pleasant, in front of the studio. You can browse inside during our limited open hours in Phase 1 and 2 of reopening, if you are wearing an appropriate respiratory face mask and put on plastic gloves provided in the gallery. The gloves are to be worn if you want to pick up the pottery to look closer. If everyone is touching the pottery with their bare hands during a pandemic, then we have to sanitize everything you touch.
We are adding finished pottery for sale on this website as fast as we can so you can purchase online and pick up in the store. Also check out the Paint-Your-Own-Pottery (PYOP)Take Home Kits on this website. You can purchase online and pick up the next day throughout May 2020. We will update this for June 2020 as appropriate. We are hoping to resume business in the premises on June 1, 2020. Now is a great time to request your custom orders of pottery. Please contact us, preferably by email.
