JOIN OUR TEAM

We are seeking happy knowledgeable volunteers and employees!
Join our team and help make Clay Art Space the best Art Center in Anchorage! We offer flexible, part-time positions - perfect for students, parents, past business owners, people who have a passion for art and business combined, and people wanting to support the arts, or looking for supplementary activities in an art field. If you are interested in working with us, please email your resume or drop by the studio and pick up an application.

Gallery Manager/Coordinator:  Bring your years of business experience, ideally in an arts or crafts environment, to our shop. This position can include finding artists, contracting, communicating and coordinating with artists to hang their work monthly and hanging artwork in general, teach classes, arranging pottery and other retail inventory.  This position also handles social media advertising, posting events to newspapers, taking pictures, creating flyers and other small business tasks as needed. Light cleaning and dusting is needed in the gallery daily. Assisting customers with Paint Your Pot activities on an as-needed basis is also necessary during open hours.

Art Teacher: We are an educational art facility as well as a supplier and manufacture business. We seek artists who can share and teach art techniques to others of all ages. Help us develop and offer art classes of multiple mediums. However, we are not an uncontrolled messy artist studio. Clean up is required. Pre-thinking to minimize the cleanup process afterwards is very useful. Art materials are sometimes hazardous and education on safe handling is part of the process.

Studio Tech: This position requires physical abilities that are best performed by a strong energetic person.  This position includes many job tasks, like a Jack-of-all-trades: From janitorial to managing clay slop to assisting customers with PYOP activities. The ability to wheel-throw clay is sometimes needed to assist with events centered around the wheels. Wheel throwing and/or hand building at a professional level (but not production level) would be great. Teaching art classes to customers is a bonus. We have a wide variety of tasks that need to be done.
If you are able to:
  • Lift and carry 50 lbs correctly (clay is heavy!)
  • Clean up after others
  • Dust, mop and clean the studio, gallery, and everywhere else. Also to clean and sanitize the bathrooms.
  • Pug and recycle clay slop (we will train you in our methods)
  • Assist with classes and/or events in the studio and offsite
  • Set up and help Paint-Your-Own-Pottery customers and clean up afterwards
  • Provide information to customers
  • Mentor other studio users to follow the studio rules
  • Ring up sales. This requires cashier & customer service skills; good handwriting; and the ability to record monetary transactions accurately and provide correct change or accept credit cards
  • Post to social media outlets
  • Organize stuff
  • And whatever else there is to do and get done around the studio
Please see our Terms & Conditions page before buying a class
